Jamestown Mall Meeting Summary

May 23, 2025.  Briefly, last night’s meeting about Jamestown Mall was a good opportunity to meet four people from the St. Louis County Port Authority who are directly involved with developing the property. There is no buyer yet, and Requests for Proposals (RFP’s) have not yet gone out. They are hiring a national broker to advise on what types of development would work best. The land is being leveled flat because the Dillards end is too low, and they will not put in a trucking company. Trees and grass will go in by the end of the year. The property had 134 easements, and all those titles had to be resolved through the Port Authority attorney, who was there last night. Utilities were underground and have been removed. Recommendations from the i5 Advisory Committee will be considered when selecting developers. A park will not be considered because a money-maker is needed. Population density up here as compared to other parts of metropolitan St. Louis is low; that will most likely prevent big, popular box stores from going in or something like the Streets of St. Charles. Another mall will not be considered. They can't do anything about Coldwater Creek but are not concerned. Samples were taken, no radioactivity found, and the creek is too far back on the property. The audience had about an hour to ask questions and make comments. I came away from the meeting believing that the Port Authority wants to do this project well. They are clearly enthusiastic about it because now it’s a different scenario for attracting developers with the mall torn down and the property cleared and cleaned up. Their focus is always on the entire county, and they want something that will attract people from all over the county. The Port Authority treasurer was there and said that there will be no corruption this time.
